Lafayette College: Hogg/Soles/Gates Residential Courtyard

Ground Reconsidered was retained by the Lafayette College to assess circulation issues, space usage and redesign the quadrangle into what is now a hub of student social activity on Lafayette’s campus. The original site suffered from a confusing network of concrete paths and a lack of defined social spaces. The new system of brick walkways ties back to the existing campus quad and defines areas of lawn used for passive and active recreation. The redesigned courtyard creates a welcoming access point into campus and features new site furnishings and lush plantings. The college’s Marquis de Lafayette statue was relocated to the new bluestone plaza, which is on axis with the existing campus entrance.
