The Roberts Center for Pediatric Research, a clinical research building for Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, is situated on 6-acres on the east bank of the Schuylkill River facing the institution’s main campus in West Philadelphia. The facility supports scientific research, clinical research, office and support functions and is the first of several major new buildings planned for the site. Ground Reconsidered, as a key member of the design team, was responsible for site planting design and for the documentation of the entire public realm. The public realm elements include a new plaza on South Street, grand processional stairs from the elevated plaza and west promenade down to a new plaza at the terminus of Bainbridge Street with complex seat walls, integral Ipe benches and multiple pavement types.
