Principal

Karen Skafte’s passion for design, inventiveness, and technical expertise is a mainstay of Ground Reconsidered. Karen’s pivotal contribution to the projects she is involved with, from programming through design and construction observation, is apparent to the firm’s clients who value and admire the creativity and effectiveness of her award-winning work. The ability to focus on a project’s intimate spaces and detail design while envisioning a holistic approach to the site’s challenges is fundamental to the successful execution of Karen’s work. As design principal with 39 years of experience, she has overseen Ground Reconsidered’s work on an extensive range of award-winning academic and public realm projects.

Karen received her Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Virginia and her Bachelor of Arts in Urban Planning from the University of Maryland.  She has taught design studios at Temple University and been a presented the firm’s work at conferences and public events.  Karen serves on the Design Review Committee for the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation.
